The Australian motorcycle market faced a slight downturn in 2025, with total sales decreasing by 1.3% compared to the previous year.
According to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), 92,967 motorcycles and off-highway vehicles were sold throughout the year, reflecting ongoing economic pressures on discretionary spending.

Off-road motorcycle sales remained stable at 41,190 units, showing resilience in this segment. However, road motorcycle sales declined by 3.6% to 33,018 units. Notably, scooter sales bucked the overall trend, increasing by 3.8% to 4,933 units, indicating a growing interest in cost-effective urban transportation solutions.

Yamaha emerged as the top-selling brand, followed by Honda and Kawasaki. Honda, in particular, achieved a 10% year-on-year sales increase, capturing 19.6% of the overall market. The CRF110F model led as Australia's best-selling motorcycle, with 5,310 units sold.

FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber commented on the results, stating that while total volumes softened slightly, the resilience in off-road motorcycles and scooters is encouraging. He highlighted that road motorcycles and scooters offer efficient and cost-effective transportation, especially in high-density metropolitan areas.

With approximately 10% of Australians holding a motorcycle license, there are opportunities to see an increase in motorcycle sales for both on and off-road riding. Manufacturers continue to invest in innovation, safety, and performance to meet the needs of Australian riders.

For consumers considering motorcycle purchases, these trends suggest a stable market with opportunities for favorable deals, particularly in the scooter segment. Prospective buyers should stay informed about market developments and explore various financing options to make informed decisions.
