The Australian motorcycle market experienced a modest decline in 2025, with total sales decreasing by 1.3% compared to the previous year.
According to data released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), 92,967 motorcycles and off-highway vehicles were sold throughout the year, down from 94,224 units in 2024.

Breaking down the figures, off-road motorcycle sales remained relatively stable, with 41,190 units sold-an increase of just 12 units from the previous year. However, road motorcycle sales saw a more significant decline, dropping by 3.6% to 33,018 units. In contrast, the scooter segment bucked the trend, recording a 3.8% increase in sales, totaling 4,933 units.

FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber commented on these trends, stating, "While total volumes softened slightly, it is encouraging to see resilience in parts of the market, particularly off-road motorcycles and scooters." He also highlighted the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of motorcycles and scooters, especially in densely populated metropolitan areas.

Yamaha led the market in 2025, followed by Honda and Kawasaki. This leadership underscores the continued popularity of Japanese manufacturers among Australian riders.

For prospective buyers, these trends may present opportunities to negotiate better deals, particularly in the road bike segment. Additionally, the rise in scooter sales indicates a growing preference for economical and practical commuting options, which could influence financing and insurance offerings tailored to this expanding market.
