The Australian motorcycle market has experienced a 4.9% decline in sales during the first nine months of 2024, according to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).
This downturn reflects broader economic challenges affecting consumer spending.

From January to September 2024, a total of 65,399 motorcycles and Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs) were sold, down from the previous year's figures. Off-road motorcycles, which constitute 40.6% of sales, saw a 2.5% decrease, with 26,521 units sold. Road motorcycles accounted for 38.4% of sales, with 25,127 units sold, marking a 3.2% decline. OHVs and scooters also experienced declines of 8.1% and 21.2%, respectively.

FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber noted the sustained challenges for the industry, stating, "The motorcycle industry in Australia has experienced a sustained period of challenges." Economic factors such as rising living costs and interest rates are influencing consumer decisions, leading to reduced discretionary spending on items like motorcycles.

Despite the overall decline, Yamaha remains the top-selling brand, followed by Honda, Kawasaki, and KTM. The industry is hopeful that upcoming model releases and potential economic improvements may help stabilize sales in the future.
